How to get SIRIS™ Splints
Home

Q: I have a patient who is a massage therapist and is concerned he will bend his splints while working. Do you manufacture sturdier splints for this kind of application?
A: Standard SIRIS™ Splints have the appropriate strength for the majority of patients’ needs. But we also manufacture “extra strength” splints for people with normal hand strength who use their hands under stressful conditions or when spasticity is present. These splints are manufactured from heavier gauge sterling silver and are wider.

Q: What is the difference between the SIRIS™ Boutonniere and the SIRIS™ Realignment Splint?
A: The elliptical spacer between the proximal and distal rings of these two splints has a long axis and a short axis. By changing the orientation of the spacer between the rings, the overall length of the splint changes. The SIRIS™ Realignment Splint is longer than the SIRIS™ Boutonniere Splint.

Q: A rheumatologist I work with would like to know when it is appropriate to refer his patients for splinting.
A: Splinting is always easier and less costly before deformities become severe. Simpler splints can be used and the patient will be able to tolerate them more easily. Early patient referral is important.

Q: When does a patient need a gold splint?
A: All of our products can be fabricated from gold, which is approximately 20% stronger than sterling silver. For some, an allergic reaction to sterling silver necessitates this choice. For many others, however, the beauty of 14K gold is sufficient reason, especially when long-term use of splints is required.

Q: I have a patient who experiences a mild allergic reaction when wearing metal next to her skin. Do you offer a solution for this problem?
A: A very small percentage of people have a body chemistry which reacts with sterling silver, and some people are around chemicals which cause a similar allergic reaction. We offer Reaction Block™, a solution developed by dermatologists, that can be applied to splints to block allergic reactions. Some individuals choose 14K gold splints as an alternative solution.

Q: Can your splints be used to treat lateral instability in osteoarthritis?
A: It is difficult to splint fingers with osteoarthritis because of nodules and enlarged joints. The SIRIS™ Boutonniere Splint gives the best alignment of joints that are deviated and are easier to get on and off.

Q: In some situations I have a problem with the Swan Neck Splint sliding off. Is there a solution for this?
A: We can make a SIRIS™ Swan Neck Splint with an Anchor Ring on the proximal ring which helps prevent the splint from sliding off. This additional band limits flexion to approximately 45 degrees.

Q: My patient loves your splints and has asked me if they can be manufactured with ornamental stones.
A: SIRIS™ splints are available with a variety of precious or semi-precious stones and decorative band designs which further enhance the beauty of the splint. Please request our separate brochure of ornamental stone and band options.
